What it’s All About

Cameratechnica.com was founded in 2010 as a haven for photographers with an inquiring mind. While there are hundreds of photography sites with basic how-to information, this site seeks to go beyond the procedural, cookbook approach to photography and provide a deeper understanding about why things work the way they do. Our goal is to take highly technical information and distill in into a form that is creative and fun.

Here are some of our non-photography inspirations:

Good Eats – Dissatisfied with the quality of cooking shows on television, Alton Brown set out to create a show which did more than just read recipes aloud as they were prepared.  Brown took the innovative approach of explaining the science behind the recipes. Television producers had avoided cooking science for decades – fearing that it would create boring television.  Brown was able to make the science work though his mastery of creative production techniques.  By adding one part humor and two parts creativity,  Brown took the dry science and cooked up a blockbuster hit.

Radiolab – Hosts Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich created this show to push the limits of radio storytelling.  Each week, they take science based stories, mine them until they uncover some underlying fascination, and then use their radio production magic to bring the stories to life.

Neil Degrasse Tyson – Dr. Tyson is an astrophysicist known for his ability to take mind bending science and bring it to the masses in a fun an interesting way.  Find him on his new venture, StarTalk Radio or follow him on Twitter for the random musings of a astrophysicist.
